The El Sobrante cannabis dispensary is the 7th location in The Artist Tree chain, and the first of our stores to open in Northern California. We were chosen over 20 applicants for a retail cannabis permit in unincorporated Contra Costa County and emerged victorious to become the first licensed recreational cannabis dispensary to serve the El Sobrante community in the county.
Artful Exploration
Part high-end cannabis retail experience and part art gallery, our new location contains custom free standing art displays featuring the work of local artists David Layton & Edward Lightner. In addition to that, guests can enjoy our seamless open floor plan, industrial detailing, custom cabinetry, hardwood floors, and museum-style inlaid glass displays throughout the interior.

David Layton
Born and raised in the Bay Area, David Layton’s paintings revolve around the technological, the present, and the personal. His works seeks out the inherent dynamism in everyday subjects through his innovative composition. He uses cropping, saturation, and skewed angles combined with his unique perspective to showcase fleeting moments in a new light.
Edward Lightner
Edward Lightner’s compelling work is inspired by his fascination with images of atmospheric atomic tests. More recently, he has also explored imagery derived from underground atomic testing to uncover visual threads of connectivity between beauty and death.
Cannabis Reimagined
All The Artist Tree locations go above and beyond just selling cannabis by serving the city through community events, education, and perhaps most importantly, by fostering creativity. Created by founders Lauren Fontein, Aviv Halimi, Avi Kahan, and Mitchell Kahan, The Artist Tree retail locations include West Hollywood, Koreatown (Los Angeles), Beverly Hills, Oxnard, Riverside and Fresno.
